Saint James, My Lady’s Manor, Monkton is located on part of the ten thousand acres given in 1713 by Lord Baltimore, Charles Calvert, to his fourth wife, Margaret Charleton. The tract was called “My Lady’s Guift.” See the area known as “the Manor.” http://www.mht.maryland.gov
The “uping block” used for riders to mount their horse, and those in carriages, is still located in the midst of the driveway at the side of the church.
Associated with the church is Saint James Academy, originally founded in 1821, and re-established in 1957. St. James Academy has grades K through 8 with an emphasis on religious values the formation the whole child: mind, body, and spirit. www.saintjamesacademy.org
